This distinctive municipal entity, officially established in 2019, emerged as a result of a deliberate partitioning process that separated it from the larger Accra Metropolitan Assembly. The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly came into existence on the 19th of February, 2019, marked by its formal inauguration under Legislative Instrument (LI) 2365. This step towards decentralization and localized governance underscored the authorities' commitment to enhance local development and community engagement.

Geographically, the Korle Klottey Municipality occupies a strategic space in the south-eastern quadrant of Ghana. It lies in a diagonal alignment between specific coordinates: Latitudes 5°32"50' N and Longitudes 0°11"15' W, as well as Latitudes 5°38"0' N and Longitudes 0°7"50' W. This locale encompasses an area spanning 12 square kilometers, constituting a modest 0.37% of the entire land expanse of the Greater Accra Region.

According to the 2021 population and housing census, the municipality shelters a total populace of 68,633 individuals. This demographic composition is an amalgamation of 33,108 males and 35,525 females, reflecting a diverse community dynamic.
