Spanning from the coast to the southern lower slopes of the Akuapim mountains, the municipality boasts a picturesque landscape and an advantageous geographical location, falling on longitude 004’0E and latitude 50 40’ 60N.

Bordered by various districts, Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly shares its southern boundaries with the Ningo-Pampram District to the South-East and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to the South-West. Towards the middle belt, it shares boundaries with Ningo-Pampram District to the South-East, Ashiaman Municipal Assembly to the South-West, and Adentan Municipal Assembly along the motorway.

On the northern belt, the KKMA is flanked by the Shai-Osudoku District to the North-East, La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal to the North-West, and the Akwapim South District to the North. Its strategic position places it only 38 kilometers away from Accra, the bustling capital city of Ghana.

The municipality came into existence in 2012 when it was carved out from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly through the Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2031. Currently, the KKMA is represented by a total of 29 members, out of which 18 are elected Assembly members.

As of the latest available data from the 2021 population and housing census, the population of Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly stands at 177,924, with 87,529 males and 90,395 females. The area comprises four distinct Area Councils, namely:

  1. Kpone - Consisting of Afieye, Laloi, and Dingla

  2. Kamsbeg - Comprising Kakasunanka, Nmlitsakpo, Sebrepor, Bethelhem, and Gbetsile

  3. Zekas - Encompassing Zenu, Katamanso, Appolonia, and Saasabi

  4. Onsbac - Including Oyibi, Nanoman, Saduase, and Bawaleshie

Regarding religion, the 2010 Population Census indicates that a significant majority (88.2%) of the total population in the district identified with Christian affiliations. Among Christians, Pentecostals constituted the largest group (50.2%), followed by Protestants (20.9%), Catholics (7.6%), and other Christian denominations (9.5%). Meanwhile, Muslims accounted for 7.2% of the population, with traditionalists making up 0.5 percent.

Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly is rich in culture and traditions, and its people celebrate several festivals throughout the year. Two of the major festivals in the area are Homowo and Kpledzoo. These festivals serve as occasions for the Ga-Dangme people from various parts of the country to come together, share communal meals, welcome new family members, and honor their deceased loved ones. Moreover, these celebrations provide an opportunity to foster community development, settle family disputes, and attract investors to the region.
