Similar to other District Assemblies, it was established under the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462) with Legislative Instrument 2133, in alignment with the government's goal of promoting decentralization and grassroots development by creating more manageable-sized Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.

Covering an area of 360 square kilometers, the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly is situated on Longitude 05o 35’N and Latitude 00o 06W. It is bordered by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to the North and West, Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly to the East, and the Gulf of Guinea to the South.

According to the 2021 population and housing census, the population of the Municipality stands at 140,264, comprising 68,099 males and 72,165 females.

The administrative structure of the Assembly is led by the Municipal Chief Executive, followed by the Executive Committee, serving as the executive arm and coordinating body. The MCE, appointed by the President, holds the highest political and administrative position.

Central Administration, established by the Legislative Instrument 1961, acts as the secretariat of the Municipal Assembly, responsible for providing support, services, and effective general administration.

The Budget and Rating Unit, also established under LI 1961 as part of the Administration Department, facilitates budget preparation and execution for the District Assembly, coordinates the organization of training programs for staff on budget preparation and financial management, and verifies the status of district development projects before requesting funds.

The Management Information Systems (MIS) class collects, analyzes, and manages information to support development and implementation. Its main objective is to provide leadership in the development and application of IT/IM standards and quality assurance systems related to IT/IM systems and resources.

For development planning, the District Planning Coordinating Unit operates in accordance with the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936). It provides advice and serves as a secretariat for the District Planning Authority, coordinates planning activities, formulates and updates the District Development Plan, and provides data and information required by the National Development Planning Commission.

The Procurement Unit, established in 2012 under the Public Procurement Act, is responsible for procurement and supply of goods, works, and services for the Assembly.

Transport services aim to provide quality and efficient service to various departments and units within the Assembly.The Stores Unit, established by the Financial Administrative Act 2003 (ACT 654), serves as the storage facility for the Assembly and advises on procurement, storage, and control usage of supplies.
