Geographically positioned between longitudes 00 05W and 10 30W and latitudes 60 55N and 7 0 30N, the municipality occupies an expanse measuring approximately 23.9 square kilometres. The establishment of the Mampong Municipality came about as a result of the bifurcation and subsequent elevation of the previous Sekyere West District. This division led to the formation of both the Mampong Municipality and Sekyere Central District entities, a development formalized through Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1908.

The municipality shares borders with Sekyere South District to its south, Sekyere Central District to its east, and the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipal to its north. The demographic fabric of the Mampong Municipality, as indicated by the 2021 Population and Housing Census, reveals a population of 116,632 individuals. Among this populace, there are 56,965 males and 59,667 females.
