The official inauguration of the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly took place on March 15, 2018, alongside the introduction of 37 other newly formed districts. Encompassing an area spanning approximately 31.13 square kilometres, this Municipality's geographical coordinates range from Latitude 6.42 oN to 6.45 oN, and Longitude 1.35 oW to 1.37 oW.
Strategically positioned within the Ashanti Region, the Old Tafo Municipality is surrounded by neighboring assemblies. To its north, south, and east lie the Kwabre East Municipality and Afigya Kwabre North. On its western border, it is contiguous with the Suame Municipal Assembly, while to the east, it shares boundaries with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
As of the 2021 population and housing census, the Old Tafo Municipality's population was recorded at 114,368 individuals. Among these, 55,086 were male, and 59,282 were female. This demographic data underscores the Municipality's significance as a vibrant and evolving community within the broader Ghanaian administrative landscape.
