WA West District - Wechiaw

Established as an independent district by L.I 1746, the Wa West District emerged from the previously integrated Wa Municipality. Positioned in the western section of the Upper West Region, it spans approximately between latitudes 9º 40' N and 10º 10' N, as well as longitudes 2º 20' W and 2º 50' W. The administrative headquarters is situated in Wechiau.

Encompassing a land expanse of 1,458 square kilometres, the district shares its borders with several entities: the Sawla Tuna Karlba District to the south, the Wa Municipal to the east, the Nadowli Kaleo District to the north, and it extends westward to the Ivory Coast.

Based on the data retrieved from the 2021 population and housing census, the district's population amounts to 96,957 individuals, comprising 45,880 males and 51,077 females.
